Dr. Williams has been Makenna's podiatrist throughout this whole casting and nightbar. We have so appreciated his professional yet kind demeanor. He has been GREAT. At Makenna's August appointment, we gave him this little snapshot booklet. (I didn't post it because I thought it was wonderful...I posted it because I thought Makenna might one day want to see it.)

August 2010...yep, that's as creative as I get
Well, I'm not as behind as I once was. ;) August was ALSO a busy month. I'm beginning to see a trend [and wonder if there will ever be an UNbusy month!]. But we're always thankful that the things that keep us busy are FUN things...can't complain about that! ;)
"But, Daddy, I'm PAINFULLY tired. Are you sure we have to go to church?"
(not negotiable!)
Makenna loves to empty the bookshelves THEN start reading.
P is for Pink Polish.
(this wasn't actually P week...just so you don't think I'm alphebetically handicapped when you see O week below!)
This was her first experience with nail polish ever. And it didn't go as badly as I expected!
Amazing discovery: Mattaya's desk.
Mattaya enjoyed rediscovering all her tiny little board books (after dumping them ALL out on the floor).
"Awwwww, ya caught me!"
Makenna isn't supposed to play with balloons (for obvious reasons). And the couch set-up was supposed to keep kiddos from having access to the entertainment center and all it's contents. So much for rules and schemes.
Letter O
So cozy under the crib.
O is for Octopus
Too funny to see the girls enjoying the "chair maze" together!
Some Silly Bandz bracelets from Miss Deb!
(She sometimes includes fun things for the girls in Micah's care packages.)
Proud of her new bracelet.
Working on some O cookies.
With sprinkles, OF COURSE.
I was shooting for Orange frosting...and it came out peachy...but now it looks pink. Oh well.
I'm not certain what on earth Mattaya has in her mouth, but Makenna seems to find it intriguing.
Happy girl.
Getting ready to send Mommy on an anniversary date with Daddy: 5 years!
"You still under here, Sister?"
Current consensus is she closely resembles Gramma Julie...do you see it?
Matt added the chrome detailing to the front of his car...I don't think I have a before picture...
"A chiss on your cheek."
Sweet sisters
"When Mommy checks her email, I check mine."
One of the first ever trips to the park TOGETHER...the WHOLE family.
Makenna doesn't look terribly relaxed, but she really did enjoy it.
A common sight. Mattaya loves to mother her dolls and stuffed animals. She feeds them, burps them, bathes them, and puts them to bed.
"Let me out, let me out!"
Must have been going for the "gorilla at the zoo" look.
She doesn't crawl so much as SWIM across the slippery tile floor. :)
And she's FAST!
She's a spunky one! "Couch" is one of her favorite games. She loves to climb and flop around and roll. LOVES it.
Working on a puzzle. She pulls herself up now. Not quite cruising ALONG the furniture, but definitely exploring vertically.
Not sure what she's tasting here, but I'm guessing by the face that it's some kind of meat. (She generally likes EVERYTHING. Meat, however, isn't her favorite.)
"Yuck! Take it out!"
Messy. And wondering if that's bad or okay...
She has now graduated to checking her email on TOP of the desk.
Mattaya loves to play "turtle" with her sandbox lid.
We LOVE this fake pouty face!
"Let me see your shoes, Sister. I've got to get me some of these..."
Not sure that's a move an actual ballerina does...
Not sure what that look is about...maybe it's time to swiffer the floors? ;)
Q week. Queens wear crowns.
Recognize the outfit, Gramma Pam?
Mattaya WOULD NOT wear the crown, but she was willing to admire it on the head of her bear.
I saw this picture and was thinking along the lines of "getting her bum into blowing her nose"...
...until I saw THIS picture! ;)
Making Q's on her Quilt. She decided to do that all on her own, and some of the Q's were really close!
Mmmm, pizza crust!
Blowing her own food. She's growing in independence all the time!
Loving her cooties.
This is the face we typically see in response to meat. The I'm-being-afflicted-but-I'll-submit-to-it face.
But the chicken was ejected! That was the first time EVER that she spit out a food!
A little leery of the noodles after having the chicken experience.
I think she was just ASSUMING the noodles were gross, because she likes them now.
Mattaya got to go for a special outing with Gramma Julie when Daddy was in CA for work. They made a special purchase at the "cookie store", and she loved that she got to enjoy it at a "picnic" in the front yard with Grampa Dave.
Breakfast of champions. This girl loves her some Wheaties.
I'm beginning to think the initial grimace is going to be standard as the new food approaches her mouth.
"Huh. That's not half bad!"
Baking a cake for Daddy.
Daddy brought home a gift: a California snow globe. Because of all the snow they get in California...
This scene got Matt really excited. He's pretty sure they're both going to be drummers.
Makenna: "Whatchu doing, Sister? I want some, too!"
Makenna: "I am a big girl, you know."
Now she's starting to really make tracks in her walker. So funny to see her moving with a purpose and reaching her destination before forgetting what it was. ;)
She still frequently requests that we "take a picture Taya", but now she makes weird faces when we get the camera out...
Surely this hat wasn't meant to stay on.
R is for Rain cloud.
And Really fake smile. ;)
AND Red polish!
Gobbling up some toast.
I love to see the sisterly love.
:)
"Do you see me? Do you see what I did?"
"Okay, then, I think I'll call it a day. I'll save the rest for another day."
Larry and Cindy were here to help celebrate Gramma Julie's birthday, but, of course, Mattaya got in on the birthday action. ;)
And they, of course, came bearing gifts for our little ladies who will have birthdays in September.
A big new fluffy puppy who fittingly bears the name "Clifford". ;) And she calls herself "Elliebeff" (Emily Elizabeth).
Meeting her fluffy pink dog.
"Yeah, I can't so much read yet. I'm going to need some help with this."
Our family
Makenna...pretending she's not being held. ;) She's been our more "attached" kiddo who will fuss when someone else wants to hold her. She had put up a big fuss earlier when Cindy had wanted to play with her...but after presents, she was willing to be picked up.
And then she finally accepted Cindy!
(Now, mid-September, she IS finally letting other unfamiliar women hold her. HUGE step. Funny she's never had trouble with strange men holding her....)
Mattaya received a fluffy brown puppy, and gave Uncle Larry a kiss of gratitude. ;)
Exploring the pinwheel.
Mattaya LOVES Cousin Benton. In church, she can spot his carseat anywhere...and is sad when he's not in there. ;) But it's GREAT when she gets to play with him at Gramma's house!
Lynette and Marlys came home to do another triple birthday bash (really, is there any other way to celebrate?!). Marlys made her awesome stir fry, and Makenna got to try some rice.
That night, Grampa Dave brought home a donut cake for Gramma Julie (bavarian cream between the layers).
This is her new photo face. Not sure where it came from.
The jutted jaw usually means she's teething. Still just the 2 on the bottom, though!
Makenna: "Not again!"
Benton is one happy boy! All you have to do is smile at him, and he's all grins. :)
Ready to celebrate some birthdays!
LOTS of play-doh.
LOTS of coloring books.
Reading a card with Auntie Marlys.
Daddy and Uncle Luke were EAGER to help Mattaya with her new Play-Doh Fun Factory.
She was pretty excited!
She LOVES to make noodles!
Gramma Julie let Mattaya help open her presents.
Quick family picture.
(I didn't include the bizarre ones.)
Gramma did pencil in Makenna's name after the cake came home. ;) Mattaya will be 3 in September, and Makenna will be 1 a couple weeks later...and Gramma Julie's birthday was on the 31st...so the cake did ultimately make sense. ;) Grampa picked the theme.
Waiting patiently for the singing to end so she can...
...BLOW OUT THE CANDLES!
And dig in to her cake and ice cream. :)
"I can't be certain, but I think I'm being gypped."
THREE
"This is for me? I get to open it?"
"Ooooo, what's this?"
She was a big fan of the musical keys.
Cards were a little beyond her.
Mattaya received this fairy princess crown. So pretty.
Grampa: "Am I pretty?"
Makenna: "Um, sure, Grampa. You're pretty."
Checking out the keys with Auntie Net.
Daddy loves his girls.
And the girls love their human jungle gym.
"Could there BE a better gift than ME?"
The unwind.
Sundays are always busy, but the Sunday of the triple birthday bash was especially tiring. So we set up the table: homemade popcorn, Nestea, raspberry tea, cheesey chips, and birthday cake. Micah joined us for junk-supper and DVDs. :)
Yep. That's my girl being a T-REX.
R is for Rainbow and Ribbon.
(And same Ridiculous face!)
Mommy is loving this Play-Doh factory business as well. I can get dinner made!
"Dear Jesus, please make the biscuit disappear."
She didn't even want to TASTE it. A homemade biscuit. With homemade raspberry jam (from Matt's friend). I was happy to be the answer to her prayer! ;)
Makenna happily devoured HER biscuit (as she does all other food).
It's coming along...
She did this all on her own. Found a hat, a purse, and some of my shoes. She proudly told me, "I a LADY." :)
"Look what I did!"
Yes, she is in the habit of escaping her clothing now. Pants. Shirts. Not uncommon to find a partially nude Kenna after naptime. ;)
Regarding the blue sheet pinned over her crib...I'm trying to protect it from the nasty night bar that so easily gouges and scratches and scrapes. :(
