Back-tracking...

This is actually June Part 2...

Sometimes it takes her a minute after nap for her to ACTUALLY wake up.

In yo' FACE!
;)

This is Makenna's flirty face.
She has a distinct affinity for men in general, and we are finding that she is generally more outgoing than Mattaya was. And Makenna wants to be the center of attention. So far, she hasn't become extremely obnoxious about that, but she definitely puts up a good show trying to draw the attention of EVERYONE in the room. :)

Whatever you do, DON'T tell a toddler to "smile".

Daddy's hair-do. Daddy's sandals.

Contemplating: "What IS a jellyfish?"

Mattaya randomly asked to paint with her feet. So we did.

Makenna has quite a bit of hair, but it doesn't hold a barrette like Mattaya's did.

Classic raspberries.

Wearing Daddy's shorts. Mattaya found this HILARIOUS.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: This is one happy baby!

She doesn't care for green beans so much. She'll eat them (she's got good eating genes, to be sure), but if she grabs a handful of green beans and Cheerios, she'll keep the Cheerios and fish the green beans out. ;)

Matt and Mattaya do this funky face thing at the dinner table.

He TOLD me he was going to take care of some things in the yard...

Green beans: grimace, or grin?

Matt passed his test for Tech Sergeant!

So Mommy and Mattaya baked him a cake (Mattaya was allowed to use sprinkles the way she desired--Uff-dah).

Bizarro child. She found a yard stick and was insisting on measuring Daddy, but she needed her glasses in order to see the numbers. I'm GUESSING this was inspired by Grampa Dave?

The alphabet is coming along.

And they're off!

Mattaya won the race to the dryer, but then...

Daddy announced a change in the finish line so he was suddenly in the lead!

She is OCCASIONALLY unhappy. ;)

Daddy and Mattaya shared an avocado for snack. Yikes! The pit is not for eating!

The face of a toddler who's been told to stand still.
Bewildered. Bored. Battling the urge to run.

Getting her pre-church workout: push-ups.

Inspecting carpet fibers.

She's been mightily attempting to crawl in spite of the fact that her casts don't let her bend her knees very far.

Mattaya made Daddy a Father's Day card.
And, yes, I know it's such an elderly man thing to do to wear socks with sandals, but the sandals hurt her feet and she won't keep them on unless I put the socks on. Bear with me.

A belt. Could there BE anything more fun?

"Have glasses like gampa."
Grampa Dave often tucks his glasses into the front of his shirt.

Wishing and hoping.
Poor girl doesn't get to go outside much. Both my kids are heat-weenies, and the casts start cooking her after only a very short time. So Makenna sits by the patio door and watches Mattaya enjoy the backyard.

Every kitchen event is a photo op.

Mattaya: "Kenna, say ah."
Makenna: "Ahhhhhh."

Mattaya: "I love you."

Mattaya: "Shhhhh."
Makenna: "Something to eat?"

If the baby does it, she must need to do it, too: crawling.

Skeptical of the chocolate pudding.

Discovering it's not so bad as it looked.

Loving that Mom let her have the whisk all to herself!

Makenna gets a real bath once a week when the old casts come off before the new casts get put on. She thinks it's GREAT fun!

"Here ya go, Mom--wanna bite?"

"Just open your mouth like this."

We just love those blue eyes!

"Really, Mother? Is this altogether necessary?"

Little ham. :)

Love to see my sleeping babe.

When she smiles, I see Gramma Julie...

Squashing peas.
Good times.

If the casting appointment falls at the right time, we'll bring DQ home for Mattaya's snack.
She's okay with that. :)

A little cautious about the sprinkler.

Just going for it.

Daddy let her experiment with handling the hose. That was definitely more fun than the sprinkler!

Learning to drink from the hose.

Notice the single cast. This child has become quite the escape artist.

Daddy took Mattaya to swim for the afternoon to somewhere Mattaya had never been before. She had a BLAST!

Anyone else grossed out by the frog's tongue?

She was kind of afraid of the fountain, but she would stick her little bootie in there. ;)

This picture looks a little maternity-esque.

Poker faces.

Notice Makenna flashing the flirty face as she prepares to roll away.

Any guesses on what this is? Matt had to explain it to me when I got home that day. To the far left is a lamp. The thing near the top is the pillow. In the bed are 4 people (each with their own blankets). The four people: Daddy, Mommy, Mattaya, and Micah. Ummmm...what? Mattaya is too, too funny with some of the stuff she comes up with!

Funny faces

Because you wanted to see Mattaya's teeth and gums up close and personal, right? ;)
[What do you think, Dr. Brent?!]

Mmmm, corn!

I would just like to thank the person who invented Painting with Water books. No muss, no fuss, hours of entertainment. SUCH a blessing when I need to do dinner prep.

Really--don't ask a toddler to smile. I'm tellin' ya...

J is for jacket

Makenna was THRILLED to discover the floor register!

"Look what I found, Mom!"

Because of the casts, she gets around by rolling everywhere.

The bubblegum shirt is one of her FAVORITES. :)

The one-cast wonder.

Our little stinkers. :)

One morning Mattaya woke up and decided she must make Jell-O immediately. There would be no talk of breakfast or any such thing. So we made Jell-O.

We've had some really hot days, so I got out the sprinkler...but she didn't care much about the sprinkler and preferred to just play.

She lay down on her artwork and was covered in sidewalk chalk.

She wouldn't run through the sprinkler to get clean, but she cooled off and cleaned off in this little bucket of water. She's such a little weirdo!

Scrub scrub scrub

She doesn't really understand the whole using squirt guns to get other people wet. She believes they are for getting bugs off the house. I think I won't argue with her! ;)

A Little More From Mattaya...

Mattaya is gaining a sense of time. Her use of the word "doo-my-oh" (tomorrow) reflects that. And she's coming to associate certain activities with specific days of the week. She knows that big events like swimming or the zoo need to wait for a "Satuhday" and that she needs to "ack Daddy". She knows that if I tell her it's Sunday, we "go chuch, restwaunt, gamma's house". And hearing that it's Tuesday, she will often declare, "Kate Addy come playthoo" (Kate and Addy will come play with you.) It is just too funny to greet her every morning! I used to walk in and tell her what day it was and what we were going to do. Now I walk in, and she tries to convince me that it's Saturday, that she's going to the commissary with Daddy to buy donuts AND go to the zoo AND go swimming at the Y. :)

She's definitely trying to say more and more words, and her utterances are getting longer. Yesterday, she made up her own word. She was sitting on the potty first thing in the morning, holding her hippo and Makenna's giraffe, telling them such sweet things. Then she looked up at me and said, "Mommy, Hippo is cute-iful!" Like cute+beautiful. :) This is such a fun age!

The Daily Goings-On

I never have anything seriously earth-shattering or even exciting to blog about...but this is the record for our kiddos. I don't scrapbook or engage in other serious memory preservation efforts, so this is it. Their memories...

H is for "hat".
What cracked me up about this was she thought the picture of the rose was a spaceship!

Sometimes I see some Gramma Julie in Makenna...

Art is serious business.
Daddy and Mattaya made this man during H week so we could give him some hair. On her own, she came up with the idea to give the man a "mushmash" (i.e., mustache).

"What's going on?"
This was the first effort to remove the casts. We were under the impression that the casts would dissolve easily when confronted with water. Not so. We were trying to avoid setting her down in the tub, because the tub would be filled with plaster of paris. We tried running water over them. Nothing. We tried sticking her legs in buckets. Nothing. So we soaked her in the tub, with two diapers on. :) It's a little tricky. You have to find the ends of the gauze and unwrap all 3 layers of easily-broken plastery-gauze. Fun times.

When we got the casts off, we discovered she had a nasty bruise on her right ankle. :(

And an owie on the back of her right ankle.

Waiting for Dr. W to come give her some new casts.

It's no wonder to us that the staff love her. ;)

PRETTY dress! Soooo which I could put some cute little sandals on those feet!

Stunning? Or just stunned?

Ready for church
(Church has no air conditioning, so we dress breathably.)

WHAT?!
Our thoughts exactly. I went to put her in the bouncer so I could move some laundry around. Before I set her in, I heard a hollow "thunk". I looked down at her, and her right cast was gone! It just FELL RIGHT OFF! Because of the owies she had on that foot, Dr. W used extra padding wrap under that cast so the bruises could heal and to help prevent open sores from developing. But apparently that extra padding meant a little extra wiggle room which meant WIGGLING OUT OF THE CAST! Once she was out of the cast, her right foot was kicking and wiggling NON-STOP. :)

Yum

Time to soak the left one off and get MORE new casts.

Matt's got this down to a science.
I have such a great husband. :)

Loving her moments of freedom!

When the casts are on, she tries desperately to crawl...when the casts are finally off, she's happy to just chill.

I is for ice cream and igloo.

Still teething...

Yoga time!

On my daily schedule, I highlight the tasks as I complete them. This day, Mattaya was standing right next to me at the desk, highlighting her "schedule" right along with me. ;)

Mommy was making a chocolate chip cheese ball, and Mattaya was just finishing breakfast. So she got to lick the "frosting" off the beaters.

"Mmmmmm, this is sooooo goooooood!"

"Positively lickalicious!"

Makenna: "Girl, you are invading my bubble."

Mattaya: Get used to it. I'm the big sister, and I'll give you a chiss (kiss) anytime I want.

A two-fisted eater.

The shirt says it all.

Her signature raspberry expression.

Baby Benton came to the Triple Birthday Bash.

Chisses for Benton.

Mattaya was pretty sure it was HER birthday. She was VERY excited about the cake.

Mabel, Dave, and Becca graciously let her take care of the candles.

The dining room walls have "stuff" now!

Both girls found it all very intriguing.
Mattaya keeps asking, "Mommy, who's dat?" (None of the picture frames have been filled with pictures of US yet....)
