I'm keeping up, but just barely! When I uploaded the pictures and saw what we had from the beginning of May I couldn't BELIEVE that was just a few weeks ago. The weeks are just FLYING by, but we're enjoying every moment of this busy "summer". :)
During Letter E Week, we colored some Easter eggs. Mattaya's starting to pay attention to the picture on the paper now and attempt to color the actual object instead of scribbling randomly.
One day I was getting some frozen mixed veggies ready for supper, and Mattaya sat down on the floor and asked that I "feed the doggy". I put some frozen veggies in a bowl on the floor, and she gobbled them right up. Being a good mommy, though, she didn't forget to feed her baby (notice the green pea stuck in the doll's mouth), who was sleeping nearby under her silicon pot-holder blanket. ;)
After finishing her snack, Mattaya joined the dolly for a nap.
The Pink Jacket
I'm a highly organized person. If you ask me for something we own, I can generally find it. Except this pink jacket. When the weather turned warmer, I searched high and low for this pink jacket of Mattaya's and couldn't find it anywhere. Not in the age-appropriate clothing bins, not in the entryway closets, not in the bedroom closets, not in the entryway bench. Gr. Drove me crazy that I couldn't find this jacket. So after I went garage-saling with Becca and bought TWO jackets (one was the right size but ugly, the other was cute but a little too big, both were cheap) to replace The Pink Jacket, I FOUND THE PINK JACKET. *sigh*
On a completely different note, I love the smile-behind-the-paci. :) And here you can get an idea of her funky feet.
Makenna LOVES to screech and squeal!
I was half-expecting a spit-wad to nail me in the forehead.
Sitting so well! And playing with the talking/singing ball. :)
Making some brownies for Daddy and his friends, Mattaya was totally jazzed about wearing matching aprons. :)
(Unfortunately, the brownies did not turn out very well. I put them in the oven, set the timer, gave the timer to Matt, and left to hang out with the ladies...the timer "never went off", and the brownies cooked for an extra 20 minutes before Matt went to check on them. When I got home, I thought, "Great, I'll have a brownie and go to bed." I couldn't cut them. So I stabbed them. Tried to pull the knife out, and the WHOLE pan of brownies came up with the knife. The brownies were a little "chewy"...or maybe "unchewable"?)
"See, Kenna? This is how you do it."
Matt has this thing about bonding with his daughters while brushing his teeth.
Makenna: "I don't get it..."
We've had some fabulous days of sunshine! We haven't gotten to spend as much time at the park as we used to because Makenna naps 3 times each day, but Mattaya really relishes the opportunities she gets to be outside.
Bad timing!
Mattaya was NOT impressed with swim lessons this particular day. The water was FREEZING, and she didn't want to do ANYTHING.
Mattaya: "You can coax me all you want, but I'm NOT releasing my death-grip on your back."
Miss Valerie (a friend we met at church) helped us a few times by being the "second parent" for swim lessons.
"Heeeeeere duckie duckie duckie..."
Trying to smile with teeth chattering and jaw clenched.
Mommy afflicting Mattaya with a swim noodle.
Mattaya almost started to relax by the end of the session!
Makenna didn't really care about anything but the duckie. We could do whatever we wanted with her...she was completely disinterested...but totally loving the duckie.
"Mmmm duck!"
Generally speaking, if an outfit is a gift, I try to get a picture in it. I handed Matt the clothes and asked him to make sure to get a picture. I realized that he had just laid her on the floor and taken another "I pasted my baby to the wall" picture and kindly reminded him that she is capable of sitting and such. He was concerned about her possibly tipping over, so I told him, "Just put her in the Boppy." (I also happened to mention that the hair clip wasn't a shirt decoration and that it could be worn in her hair!)
So he LAYS her in the Boppy.
*sigh*
But the hair clip was appropriately place in her hair!
I just laughed at him, and he eventually figured out that Makenna could SIT in the Boppy.
Makenna: "Good job, Dad."
Ready for church
Ballerina
Daddy and Mattaya have some tomato seed projects in the works.
(No, I DID NOT put her hair in a side-pony...I promise.)
She's starting to scoot around! Mostly backwards, but she occasionally gets up on all 4's!
Sisters
The Froggy Jams
Happy Girl LOVES her toes!
And she's getting so BIG! She's in 12-month clothes now.
Mattaya: "Tickle tickle ears Kenna!"
Makenna: "Is this supposed to be funny?"
Makenna: "MOMMY is funny!"
(Or maybe it was Daddy...they do look like someone pasted them to a wall...)
Notice Makenna's "flirt face". :)
MORE new clothes from Gramma Julie. Mercy.
ALMOST got some smiles...
Singing "Twinkle Twinkle"
Her shirt says, "Grandma's Little Sunshine".
Notice Daddy's reflexion in the glass as he coaches the smile. ;)
A blurry kiss before heading to the commissary.
The picture of TIRED.
Mommy bought some water wings for Mattaya...who was sleeping...so Makenna got to try them on first. She looks a little bewildered by the accessories, but she was all about "sampling" the goggles.
Mattaya's first goggles. Too funny! I'm surprised she even kept them on.
She's a huge fan of sunglasses. :)
"I have these..."
"...big, STRONG..."
"...MUSCLES!"
And they grew.
Something smells fishy.
Grin
Saturday morning pedicure.
Ready for the last swim lesson!
Makenna: "Can you believe they're taking a picture of this?"
Mattaya: "Yes. This is what they do."
"Are you done yet?"
Daddy helped Mattaya learn to kick and paddle around.
Makenna chewed on ducks.
Last year Mattaya was all about jumping in...this year she WOULD NOT.
"This is fine; I can still chew my duckie."
"This is not fine. I cannot reach my duckie."
"I refuse to kick."
Independence!
Most of the time she kicked around with this happy/surprised look on her face.
"Hooph this water is cold!"
Not a fan of the dunk.
Djembe time!
Fascinated with washing her feet in the sink.
What precipitated the washing of feet in the sink: fingerpainting with feet.
Adding some feathers...
Foot and Feather Collage
(Letter F Week)
Matching dresses!
Mattaya: "I pull your dress."
Mattaya: "I tweak your nose."
Makenna: "Oh yeah? Well I EAT your dress!"
Mattaya is actually getting really good with the tricycle! And whistling is a must when tricycling.
Thanks for the shirt, Auntie Net!
We continually marvel at what a happy baby Makenna is.
"Yep."
Makenna: "Mom, these things are wonderful! They wobble, but they don't fall down!"
LOVE these moments of sweetness!
One of our projects for G week was wrapping a GIFT.
Cutting is still a challenge, but she enjoys trying.
Taping is a little easier.
Waiting to open a gift is NOT easy at all. :) I had intended for Mattaya to wait until after nap (when Matt and I would be downtown for Makenna's first casting), but she really, REALLY wanted to open it.
And unwrapping is oh so fun!
Inside she found some kitchen pieces for her dollhouse...which I ordered not realizing they come with batteries so they can make really obnoxious noises.
Thanks for the outfit, Auntie Cindy!
This girl loves her some Weebles.
So happy. So oblivious to the treachery to come (casting day).
Frustration. We had to wake her from a nap to get to the appointment on time...then waited for over an hour so that she was way past tired by the time they came in to start casting.
"Don't worry, be happy, Mom."
She was definitely nearing her limit, but she was a great kid and was so good-natured for them. And our doctor is the nicest guy EVER, so how can you be mad at him?
Here the right cast was complete, and they were just getting ready to do the left cast. There's a stocking and some layers of cotton wrap under the cast.
The cast is actually made of gauze dipped in plaster of paris. Hot. Heavy. Messy.
She shook her rattle and ate puffs so patiently for about 45 minutes.
But when she was done, she was ready to go.
She can sit just fine. She quickly figured out how to heave the casts around to get rolled over. She's had some frustration not being able to get up on her knees.
"No problem. I just roll with it!"
"Mmmmm! Dresses are so tasty."
She's been wearing a lot of dresses, because she can't wear pants (and shorts are just a pain to get on over the casts).
Other than the frustration with mobility (which she is quickly overcoming!), Makenna wasn't too bothered by her casts.
The apron is a "must" now whenever we bake. ;)
Also during G week, she got to chew some GUM while coloring GOATS. She was just a LITTLE excited about the gum.
Eating Daddy's special cereal. She would NOT have it in a bowl. It's ONLY good straight from the box.
I have to say that I cracked up when I found Mattaya imitating Makenna in her "boots" (which is what we call the casts) with a pacifier.
Can't get the casts wet. Need to give the pukey kid a bath. Watcha gonna do?
THIS is what I'm gonna do!
Her casts stayed dry, and she got pretty clean. I don't like that I can't give her bottom a good soaking, but she does seem to get decently clean.
Those gums. She's been teething pretty hard for a few WEEKS now and STILL has nothing to show for it.
"I think I'll call..."
Tough choice.
Play-doh time with Micah and Daddy
Matt's the one wearing the "mad skills" T-shirt, but it looks like Micah is the one with some mad play-doh skills.
Ssssssssnakes
Thanks for the dress, Auntie Cindy!
When we had a bunch of friends over for a BBQ, Mattaya finally found out what was INSIDE the turtle in the backyard. :) She was thrilled.
Mattaya loves Kate, who comes over each week for piano lessons.
Addy and Mandi getting the hang of ladder golf.
And dare I say ENJOYING it?
Mattaya was occupied for quite a while.

Micah was all about the sidewalk chalk.
And apparently Beth likes bubbles?
And THEN I let Mattaya take her shoes off...
"Ooooooo, that feels so good."
dig dig dig
Mandi analyzed Matt's grass.
Analise: "What's that you have in your mouth there?"
Makenna's friend Analise was there for the BBQ as well. Analise is only a month younger, but she's petite. Makenna is not petite. :)
Analise: "How 'bout I take your toy?"
Makenna: "How 'bout I slap you?"
Makenna: "And give you a push?"
Analise: "Well, I'm taking your bib."
Smile for the picture!
