2009 started just fine.
We got really busy and fell behind.
Found out we are pregnant; started feeling so sick.
Found out we are pregnant; started feeling so sick.
Catching up on the blog became quite a trick.
So here's our attempt to make peace with you:
The month of January in review...
Not a fan of the Crinkle Cookie, Mattaya emphatically indicated it belonged on the tray.
One morning, Daddy ran out to get donuts for breakfast...
These are the little yellow donuts with chocolate frosting that may or may not be considered real food (Gramma Julie says, Yuck!).
"Hm, these aren't half bad..."
Also on the smorgasbord that morning was chocolate chip pancakes. Gramma Julie put a little whipped topping on there for good measure. (And, no, our breakfasts do NOT typcially consist of foods that are pure sugar!)
Not yet rejected...
She's pretty sure EVERYTHING is too hot, so she blows frantically and eats everything after it turns frigid.
Re-checking the temperature.
It's just right!
Here's the story. When I was pregnant with Mattaya, Matt started buzzing his head. Somewhatly for a different look, and somewhatly to reduce the amount of money he was spending on haircuts (he can buzz it himself). He had quite a bit of time off over Christmas; his hair grew out enough to consider doing something different...still not wanting to shell out, he thought I should give it a go.
After watching a YouTube video, we got started.
It took a looooong time, and it wasn't perfect..
...but, really, for a first try, it was pretty darn good! (If I do say so myself.)
A rousing game of Bwee (Mattaya's word for Whee!) with Gramma Julie.
So after all that hair craziness, Matt decided to try his hand at "manscaping".
(a more complete view of the haircut)
A salute to Randall R.
I don't even know what to say about that one.
This girl loves to go ANYWHERE. Whether it's outside to play or shopping or Gramma's house. Whatever you do, don't deny her when she comes to you saying "Coat. Go."
Funny girl.
Oh, to know what's in her mind.
What a cute little ham...we so enjoy her!
Sometimes a stinker. ;)
Gotta love those positively giddy days!
This was one of those days when I started dinner prep during her snack time and she was sure she needed to have what I was using. Mmm, green pepper...she always feels so lucky to get what I've got...until she tastes it. ;)
First taste.
"I'm not sure this is for eating."
"Let me check again."
"Not good this time either. Hm."
Oh the snow we've had this year! And this was back in January!!! Matt's always so glad he married me on the days when my dad would come by in snow removal equipment.
Mattaya received some bristle blocks for Christmas...and Daddy made her some super sweet glasses!
And she LOVES this toy...not only is it a phone, it also involves LETTERS and MUSIC!
New obsession: magazines. The first incident lasted an HOUR. She just sat on Daddy's lap as he flipped through the pages. Gramma's an easy target...
And she'll move from one issue to the next. Parents and Parenting are her favorites."These feel...different."
"Good for marching..."
"...and for practicing my runway walk."
Hats are another object of affection. We frequently hear, "Hat on, hat on."
Mattaya has several "friends" on the fridge (Christmas cards, birth announcements, etc.).
Here she is very excited about her friend Baby Ronan...
Guess what dinner involved this night...
Apparently cauliflower is some kind of funny joke?
"Okay, let's get down to business. How does one go about tasting this?"
"Can't break it apart..."
"Maybe if I SQUEEZE it really hard..."
"I'm pretty sure that's not even real food. I'm so not excited about dinner tonight."
She can put on her own hat, but she wants help with the mittens (she can do 1, but not the other). And like with the coat, she's pretty sure if she's got outdoor clothing on, she'll get to go somewhere. ;)
She still regularly enjoys her ball pit.
Gramma Julie has all kinds of things she likes to teach Mattaya. Climbing was KIND OF necessary since Gramma couldn't lift her, but it was kind of INCONVENIENT for Mommy for Mattaya to learn this skill. ;)
She's a pretty quick learner...
...and easily distracted.
These little piggies went for a car ride...
Eventually we had a day that was warm enough to venture outside. Oh the fun we had! She mostly walked around in the street (the yards and sidewalks were at least a couple feet deep), but she quickly learned how to fall down and get back up.

So much snow...sigh.
Snow climbing up, snow hanging down.
Daddy tried to teach her how to make snow angels.

That fence behind Matt is the SECURITY fence behind our house.
The angel had feet anyway.
When you sit in snow, you have to be SO careful so that you don't suddenly--
faceplant.

Funny thing is she didn't want to be saved! She wanted to lay on her tummy and eat some more snow. :)

Time to thaw...
The view from our dining room window.
She's growing in independence...on and off the bus all by herself.
A plain pancake this time...I think she even preferred it over the chocolate chip ones!
Mattaya went through a few weeks when she wasn't too sure about Grampa Dave. Thankfully it didn't last long!
Trying to master the spoon.
She insists THIS is the way the stool was meant to be used. In all honesty, I think she's trying to say she wants a rocking horse at HOME. ;)
We've been ever-so-grateful for the Tadoodles that Gramma Pam and Grampa Gary sent for Christmas! I actually have to keep them out of sight to prevent her from fixating on them (but we do enjoy them often!).

Grandpa Gary selected this cute little Purdue dress. While it claimed to be 2T, it was awfully small...very short...so we thought maybe it's more like a dress-shirt intended to be worn with black stretch pants...but the sleeves were quite tight. Hm.

And move she did. (No, that's not all diaper...the volleyball happens to be very unfortunately aligned with her bum.)
